With the support of NHS England and NHS Improvement we are now offering video consultations to some of our patients. This forms part of our response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), in that we want to reduce the number of people coming into hospital to make sure we reduce the risk of infection.

We are offering video consultations to some patients who have been identified by their healthcare professional as someone who may be suitable for this type of appointment, depending on their individual care needs. Video consultations are easy to use and are often more convenient – saving you time and money.

The system we are using is called NHS Attend Anywhere. This is a secure web-based platform for patients with pre-arranged video consultation appointments. You can use the platform on any PC, Mac or iOS/Android device, using Google Chrome (for PC/Mac/Android devices) or Safari (For iOS devices and Macs). The video platform does not take a recording of your consultation. We recommend that patients connect to their home or work Wi-Fi to avoid using their mobile data allowance.

We understand that it may not be possible for you to conduct your appointment via video, or that you may not want to. If this is the case, please let us know and we can arrange for your appointment to be conducted in another way.

Attend Anywhere is a secure NHS video call service for patients with pre-arranged appointment times only. If you are due to have a video consultation, we will schedule your appointment as normal and send you the details of the appointment date and time.

If this is the first time you are attending a Video Consultation, we recommend that you check and test your equipment in advance. If you experience any problems please view our ‘Getting Started’ guidance.

You can test your equipment on the Attend Anywhere website

The test page must be opened in Chrome. If it opens in Internet Explorer, simply copy the link into Chrome to carry out the test.

  • Please make sure you are sitting in a well-lit and private area where you will not be disturbed.
  • Remember to ensure you are using the right browser (as outlined above), that your microphone and camera are set up correctly and you have a strong internet connection.
  • Please view the 'How to use Attend Anywhere' video below which explains more about how to ensure your computer or device is compatible.
  • When you open the link to access the video consultation, you will be asked to enter your first name, last name, date of birth and phone number. This information will help us to identify you. (This information is not stored beyond the length of the video call).

Once these steps have been followed, click on the 'Start Call' button and you will enter the waiting room until your consultation begins. You will see yourself on the video and hear music. The waiting room is private and you will not see other patients.

You are welcome to invite a family member, parent, friend and/or carer to sit with you throughout the video consultation at your discretion.

Once signed in, please wait for our clinician to greet you. Occasionally there might be a short delay and your appointment might not run at the planned time. This might be because our clinician needs to spend a little longer with another patient. If this happens the clinic team will aim to send you a message via the application.

When your consultation is ready to begin, your image will shrink and move to the corner of the screen and you will see your clinician. Your video consultation will last approximately the same amount of time as a usual face-to-face out-patient appointment.

At the end of your video consultation, the clinician may suggest a further appointment. They will either agree a date and time with you or a member of our administrative team will contact you at a later date.

After you disconnect the video call, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire. We very much appreciate you spending the time to provide feedback on your experience to help us to improve this service.

In the event of the Attend Anywhere system being unavailable for your scheduled video call, please expect a phone call from your clinician for your appointment to take place over the phone around the approximate appointment time. Your caller display may show this as a withheld number so please pick up the call.
