Evidence Searching Service
All Trust staff can use the Evidence Searching Service. Searches are completed by experienced, professional Librarians.
Request an evidence search.
Alternatively, Request an evidence search via KnowledgeShare (OpenAthens username and password required). We use KnowledgeShare to distribute evidence search results. It also allows you to sign up to receive regular updates on your search (it will automatically re-run the search and send you new results). Click here for more information and to sign up.
Alternatively, email your request to library@tgh.nhs.uk
We regret we cannot do the search for you if it is needed for a course assignment, however, we can give you some training to enable you to do it for yourself.
Systematic Reviews
Systematic reviews are more rigorous than traditional literature reviews. They follow a clearly defined, structured, and reproducible process to identify and summarise all available evidence on a specific research question. Because of this thorough approach, systematic reviews typically take longer—often between 6 - 18 months—and require a team rather than being completed by a single individual.
Librarian involvement is associated with higher-quality systematic reviews [Pawliuk et al, 2024]. Missing terms and other errors in search methods affect the results, which may change the conclusions [Uttley et al, 2023; Salvador-Oliván et al, 2019]. Systematic review searches should be comprehensive and we can support with a robust, high-quality search.
We can carry out literature searches for systematic reviews which follow recognised standards such as Cochrane. We can also offer advice if you are planning to design the search strategy yourself. Please contact the Library team or complete the Evidence Search request form.
Systematic reviews are one of many types of literature review, the table below highlights some of the key differences and this flowchart may help to decide if a systematic review is appropriate for your project: https://guides.hsict.library.utoronto.ca/ld.php?content_id=37500417
