Local breast cancer support group, Bosom Buddies, has raised £2,783.56 for Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity through their own ‘Calendar Girls’ fundraiser.

The money raised will go towards supporting other patients diagnosed with breast cancer in Tameside and Glossop.

Bosom Buddies provides a welcoming space for anyone in the Tameside area who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, either in the past or currently. At monthly meet ups, group members bond over their shared experiences and offer each other advice.

The Tameside-based group was founded by friends Lindsey and Janet after the pair met while both undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Tameside Hospital’s Macmillan Unit.

Earlier this year, the Bosom Buddies took on the daring challenge of creating their own 2026 charity calendar. Every month features a different member of the group who has had either a lumpectomy (to remove the lump and some surrounding tissue) or a mastectomy (to remove one or both breasts), as well as chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.

Inspired by the film ‘Calendar Girls’, these ladies bared (almost) all to raise awareness of breast cancer, posing with a selection of carefully placed props.

The project was a real community effort, with hair and makeup provided by Glow Up Studio and free printing provided by Spectrum Innovations.

Calendars cost £12 each, which will help support a great cause. Proceeds have been split between two charities, Prevent Breast Cancer and Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity.

Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity said:

“It’s inspiring to see these wonderful women come together to raise money for our Tameside Macmillan Unit. This money will help fund initiatives such as cancer health and wellbeing days to provide that extra bit of support for our patients.”
