Tameside Macmillan Unit is launching a new bereavement support group which offers a safe, compassionate space to share feelings, connect with others going through a loss, and find comfort during difficult times.
The group is designed for people affected by cancer who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
The first support group will be held on Wednesday 17 December from 10am to 12pm at The Monastery Manchester in Gorton.
This comes as the UK marks Grief Awareness Week, from 2 to 8 December. Run by The Good Grief Trust, National Grief Awareness Week aims to help people feel less alone and encourage open conversations around loss.
This year’s awareness week theme, ‘Growing with Grief’, highlights the importance of working together to find ways to become stronger, healthier by laying down roots for the future.
“The death of a loved one is often painful and overwhelming, but you don’t have to go through it alone,” says Tania Armstrong, Macmillan Information and Support Officer at Tameside Macmillan Unit.
“Our new bereavement support group is open to anyone affected by cancer who has experienced the loss of a loved one.
“It’s a great opportunity to share your feelings without judgement, while receiving expert support to process your grief in safe environment.”
The bereavement support group offers opportunities to both listen and share personal stories and reflections in confidence. Attendees will be supported trained facilitators who can provide both emotional support and practical coping strategies, as well as links to specialist grief support.
Gorton Monastery offers free parking and accessible facilities.
