Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity is delighted to receive a donation of £403.73 from Denton Striders Walking Football Group following their annual fundraising tournament.
The event took place on Saturday 14 March 2026 at Denton Youth Football Club, bringing the community together in support of a local cause. Each year, the group selects a charity to benefit from the tournament, and this year chose to support Tameside Hospital’s Dementia Fund.
The money raised will go towards supporting patients at Tameside Hospital who are living with dementia.
Also known as Denton Walking Football Group, Tameside Striders is a friendly, community-based group that meets twice weekly at Denton Youth F.C. on King Street. The group offers a slower-paced, reduced-risk version of football designed primarily for older adults, promoting exercise, wellbeing and social connection. Sessions run throughout the year, with players aged 60+ taking part in inclusive, mixed-ability games focused on enjoyment rather than competition.
While the group does take part in occasional competitive matches, their main focus is on regular internal games and creating a welcoming environment. Players meet every Tuesday and Thursday, with sessions tailored to different age groups, and finish with a chance to socialise over a cup of tea.
Lawrence O’Toole, Secretary of Denton Striders Walking Football Group, said “We’re proud to support such an important cause in our local community. The support from everyone who took part made this donation possible.”
Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity, added “We are incredibly grateful to Denton Striders for their fantastic fundraising efforts. Donations like this make a real difference to patients living with dementia and help us enhance the care and support we provide.”
