Norovirus, also known as the ‘winter vomiting bug’ is on the rise in communities across the Greater Manchester area.
The virus can be spread easily through close contact or by contaminated surfaces, food or water.
It is essential that visitors do not attend Tameside Hospital if they have experienced symptoms of norovirus in the last 48 hours.
Common symptoms include:
- a sudden onset of nausea, followed by projectile vomiting and diarrhoea, usually 1 to 2 days after becoming infected
- high fever and headache
- aching arms and legs.
Staff will be following strict infection prevention and control precautions to minimise any risks.
Thank you for your understanding. Following this advice will help reduce the risk from norovirus to our vulnerable patients and reduce pressures on our services.
