A host of Tameside and Glossop ICFT teams and initiatives have been shortlisted for this year’s prestigious HSJ Patient Safety Awards.

These national awards recognise and celebrate the hard-working teams and individuals who are striving to improve patient care.

Tameside and Glossop ICFT HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2023 nominations:

  • The Digital Health Streaming Service has been nominated for Community Care Initiative of the Year, for their ‘Community at the Door’ initiative, which is helping direct patients who self-present at the Emergency Department to the most appropriate place for treatment.
  • The Acute Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit has been shortlisted for two awards, Improving Care for Older People Initiative of the Year and Urgent and Emergency Care Safety Initiative of the Year. The nominations recognise the work of the unit, which launched in November 2022, to provide same-day support for acutely unwell patients aged 65 and over, who present with acute frailty syndromes.
  • The Tameside and Glossop Community Managing Deterioration Programme Board has been nominated for Early-Stage Patient Safety Innovation of the Year. The board was established in 2022 and aims to reduce deterioration-associated harm by improving prevention, identification, escalation, and response to physical deterioration.
  • The Digital Health Service has been nominated for the Improving Medicines Safety Award. The nomination recognises the benefits of electronic prescribing, which allows patients to collect medicine newly prescribed by the hospital team directly in a community pharmacy of their choice.

The award winners will be announced on 18 September.
