The Women’s Health Unit at Tameside Hospital has relocated to the Yellow Suite, where new, modern, fit-for-purpose procedure rooms and clinic spaces have been created.
The major upgrade to the unit is thanks to a generous £165,000 donation from the hospital’s League of Friends organisation.
This extraordinary gift was made possible through the remarkable legacy of Mary Goodliffe, who was a volunteer with the League of Friends.
Altogether, the project represents a £500,000 investment in women’s health, with the Trust funding the remaining balance from a £1.2M funding pot for improvements.
The move to the Yellow Suite has created a calm, comfortable, and dignified environment for women accessing care.
The new space provides a welcoming setting for routine and urgent treatments, with dedicated areas for gynaecology and maternity patients - improving comfort and privacy.
It also allows clinical teams to offer more procedures outside of surgical theatres, reduce waiting times, and expand valuable training opportunities for the next generation of consultants and nursing staff.

The project aligns with the vision of the charity’s Everyone Matters Fund, supporting initiatives that enhance patient experience, staff wellbeing, and the delivery of compassionate, high-quality care.
