Visitors to the new state-of-the-art Mammography Unit, in Hartshead North, will be able to find inspiration in a unique piece of artwork which hangs centre stage in the waiting area.

The picture was created and donated by Dr Leslie Robinson, a retired radiography teacher turned renowned artist.

Leslie explained: “The picture was painted as a reminder that behind every black and a white mammogram image is a colourful human with their own unique story to tell.”

The painting was generously donated by Leslie to raise awareness of the power of the patient, as exemplified by patient representative and research collaborator Jo Taylor, who joined Leslie to see the picture on display in the Mammography Unit.

Jo, from Saddleworth, lives with secondary breast cancer and founded the organisation After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCDiagnosis) to support people who have had a diagnosis of primary or secondary breast cancer.

ABCDiagnosis provides practical and emotional help and has a strong focus on maintaining health, fitness and wellbeing.

The new Mammography Unit is part of the first phase of the ongoing £20 million Emergency Department redevelopment.
